How will running half marathons effect my body? I'm 13 and of average size for my age. If I run half marathons and do a lot of long distance running, how will this effect my body? Please answer this in detail. I've heard from some people that it hurts speed. Slows me down in shorter distances like the mile run. I've also heard running fast for long distances hurts knees......
I have a question about running marathons? Whenever I run in a marathon or any type of race, my knee starts to hurt. I guess my knees arent that strong or something. So what kind of exercises can I do to build up my knees and ankles. And also keep from pulling muscles while I run.

What keeps going wrong when running marathons? I feel great right up until about 20 miles into the race. Then I start feeling this feeling almost like a mild nausea, my saliva gets kind of thick and my digestive system just feels kind of crappy, I little like I could throw up. The same thing happenned during a Triathlon this past weekend except much earlier on in the race in terms of time. Every time it happens I try to fix it but I cant figure out the problem. Am I drinking too much, too little, impoper nutrition?

How long after running a marathon should I wait to start running again? I was born with rheumatoid arthritis it doesnt bother me much anymore, but towards the end of my first marathon I was feeling pain only where my arthritis was when I was little (my right ankle, knee, and hip). I am 24 and healthy now. I was just wondering typically how long someone should wait after running a marathon to start running again. Also if anyone has any advice on running marathons with a history of rheumatoid arthritis... if it's something I should or shouldn't continue doing? thanks!
Will running a marathon look good for college? I have been running competitively for four years, and I am wondering if running a marathon will look good on my resume to get into college. My mom works as a partner for a large New York accounting firm, and she says that a lot of her fellow partners have run marathons and like to hire people who have because it shows determination and will power. I am just wondering if it will look good for college. Thanks Megan ;)
Should i wear under armor shorts while running a marathon? I have a friend that has started running marathons not too long ago and he gave me advice. One thing he told me i should wear is under armor shorts. I was a little confused because i thought running shorts with liners where all you need; doesn't the liners alone help with chafing or do i need more?

Is running a marathon bad for your knees? Will running marathons in my 20s and 30s affect me later in life? I am worried that the impact of running on the road will put stress on my knees & ankles and give me problems when I am older (even if it doesn't affect me now).
Running Marathons... at 13? Ok I am 13 5'6 128 lbs I have just started running up again since XC was done at it got cold. I wanna start running 10k marathons or half marathons after 3 months of running training. I have a 2 pack abs right now but still alittle fat on my lower body will tahts low me down and anyways i am trying to lose that fat on body. Idealy is it possible for me to lose that fat and get a smaller stomach from that in 3 months training. Also will training for marathons affect my body in anyways because I am very athletic and I still want to be able to play sports. So is it ok. I am plannign to train with my mom when it is warmer for her to run because she hasnt run since the summer.

What is more mentally demanding, for a proffessional to play golf? Or an elite running a Marathon? I'm trying to see what the public opinion is. I've ran a few marathons myself and am very well aware of the not only the physical demands; but also the mental/psychological concentration that a marathoner needs to have in order to do well. I have very limited experience with Golf. But is it accurate to say that Golf has a more mental/psychological demand than running a Marathon? What is your opinion?
is it a bad idea to run road marathons in trail trainers? I ask this simply because i like the low profile look of trail trainers and i am yet to see any road running trainers that i haven't thought are hideous. I know running isn't about looking good, but i'm thinking trail trainers should still be alright? By the way at the moment i'm looking at half marathons, moving onto triathlon. Thanks!
How to avoid cramps in calves while running marathon? This past January, I ran my first marathon. I experienced cramps in my calves for the first time. I would like to know how to avoid getting these. They are painful and I had to ealk after I got them. I would stretch and the pain would go away for 10 seconds and come back. Is it from not drinking enough water? I was running in hot, humid weather.
Trail Running Vs. Road Running Half-Marathons - Which is harder? There's a half-marathon I would like to do in November. But it's 90% dirt trail, and described as challenging and hilly. Would this be much harder compared to a typical road half-marathon? I'm confident I can train for a road half, but not sure about one that's trail and hilly... What's your take?
How do I start running for exercise? I hate running, I always have. But, it's the best way to lose weight. I'm feeling inspired by my cousins who run marathons. I'm 36 190 and 5' 6". I am a healthy person-no bones, no aches or pains. No problem with strenuous activity. But I don't want to mess up my knees and I don't know how to breathe properly while running. Also, is it Heel - toe or on your toes to run? Or jog? and what's the difference between running and jogging anyway. The whole bounce thing bugs me too. Any suggestions?
Do the health benefits of long-distance running outweigh the costs? Lots of folks I know have been taking up long distance (marathon) running - and usually cite it as a tremendous personal goal and an opportunity for a major endurance gain. Besides, there's the 'runner's high'. However, I have also heard from others, including folks in the medical profession, that training for and running in a marathon is a terrible thing to do - because no matter how much you attend to form, it is a lot of wear and tear to your joints that you will regret when you're older. Is there an official medical position on running marathons? Recommended or discouraged?
I have a couple of questions regarding running Marathons? This morning I extended my usual 3-mile running route through the next village, so it came to 5.4 miles. It took me 45 minutes, but by the end of my route, I felt as though I could still run a lot further- perhaps another lap of it! This new found enjoyment- actually let's not push it, let's say tolerance- of running has inspired me. Since I started running every morning as of a few months ago, I have had it in my head that I want to run the London Marathon someday. I was considering running it in 2011, when I'll be a much stronger runner, however I'd like to know if those of you who have run the marathon think, if I work hard enough, I could run it in 2010? I know I'd have intense training on my hands, but recently, a relative died from a brain tumour, and I would simply love to run the Marathon in memory of him, especially if I could raise money for a cause that is relevant to said illness. Is it too late to apply to do this, too late to start fund-raising, or just generally a good idea to wait another year for it? Please let me know your thoughts on this. In the short-term however, there is a half Marathon in my local town at the very end of the month, and I am considering running in it. Bearing in mind what I have told you so far, do you think it is a reasonable task for me? Or am I being over-ambitious? I would love to do it personally, especially if it gives me some experience for the bigger London counterpart. Any suggestions or thoughts are greatly appreciated. Take care, Simon Thank you for your help everyone. Decided to up the ante this morning, and ran just over 9 miles- wasn't even that fatigued at the end, so that is a good sign I am thinking :) .

How does the pain of labor compare to running a marathon? I've run several marathons and thus far is the greatest pain I've ever felt. But I've never gone through labor/giving birth and have always kinda wondered how the two compare/contrast. Obviously this question is directed to women who have done both.
What are the most popular half marathons in the USA? I'm just starting out running marathons, and I'm looking for ones (possibly down south) that are really popular to run in the fall/ winter .. like where thousands of people run every year. Any that you've ran, or feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!
How do people have the energy to run marathons? im serious. I was watching the olympics last night and that 36 year old lady ran a 26 mile marathon. She was amazing and she one 1rst. Her stomach was nasty but people please help. how do they do this?
Health risks involved with running a marathon? I'm considering running the Marine Corps Marathon in DC next October. I'm already a fit person. I've run half marathons before with no problem. I don't think a year + is an unreasonable time frame to train in. I'm pretty certain I could do it but I'm wondering if the possible health risks make it worth it. I.E. torn muscles, fatigue, damage to the heart. Has anyone run one? Did they feel it was worth the effort?
