Istanbul Marathon

I have a question about running marathons?

Whenever I run in a marathon or any type of race, my knee starts to hurt. I guess my knees arent that strong or something. So what kind of exercises can I do to build up my knees and ankles. And also keep from pulling muscles while I run.

  1. Running a marathon puts a lot of stress on your body so don't feel bad if you have the snap, crackles and pops. Try icing your knees, shins and feet after your marathon or on hard workouts to reduce swelling or get a massage or take a hot bath, swim or go in the jacuzzi. It's best to work out with resistance bands are with nautilus machine weights and do exercises that will strengthen your running leg muscles such as hamstring curls and leg extensions or doing squats, lunges or toe and heel raises. You might also want to work with a movement science or kinesiologist that can work with your running gait and offer tips on your stride. Your mechanics might be slightly off which hampers your performance and cause your pain. Also make sure you have good running shoes. Pulling your muscle - try running backwards which works your opposite running muscles. Also learn to relax while running your times will improve if your relaxed and your probably won't be as sore.
